Breaking: Rams RB Cam Akers to Miss 2021 Season with Achilles Injury

Updated: Aug 4, 2021

Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers to miss entire 2021 NFL season after suffering a torn Achilles in a non-contact practice injury early Tuesday morning. Akers had an amazing finish to the 2020 campaign, helping the Rams make a playoff run and many fantasy owners secure a championship. Most experts have Akers ranked as a top 15 fantasy RB for the upcoming season, though there were concerns about metering his workload. In light of this injury, the Rams backfield now consists of Darrell Henderson and Xavier Jones, along with rookie Jake Funk. Henderson was already expected to have a significant role in the McVay offense, but Jones was only used on special teams in 2020 and Funk is a huge question mark coming out of Maryland in the 7th round. As far as fantasy impact, you never want to see a guy go down, but it's good this happened early enough for us to see how the carries will be managed throughout preseason. Henderson's stock will skyrocket him up into the top 15 RBs drafted, but we need to see if Jones has the potential to break out and keep Henderson as the change of pace guy. As August draws closer we will be revising the RB rankings and try to get a feel for where we should be targeting the LA backfield in fantasy drafts.
