SportsLeaf Legacy League: Week 2 ReCap

Week 2 saw some regression back to the norm for many high-flying week 1 teams, but also some bounce-back performances that evened the playing field that looked a little lop-sided after only one weekend of football. Let's break down the matchups and look at what is in store for week 3.

Match of the Week

(7) Bye Felicia 136.22

vs

(11) Beaver Licker 121.6

Our match of the week features two teams coming off week-one losses, and the battle raged down to the Monday Night Football wire with Beaver's QB Aaron Rodgers narrowing the scoring gap but ultimately not able to overcome the deficit. Beaver also faced an uphill battle down the stretch, as Bye Felicia's tight end Robert Tonyan was on the receiving end of a touchdown thrown by Rodgers, meaning the points for Beaver were cancelled out. Despite a mediocre turnout from her running backs, Bye Felicia was bolstered by four total touchdowns from her wide receiver trio and another strong outing from star QB Pat Mahomes. Playing the wonderful hindsight game, Beaver could have achieved victory by flexing Raiders WR Henry Ruggs III (20.50) over Corey Davis (2.80), but by that same token Felicia could have flexed Patriots running back James White (18.5) over James Conner (2.60) and still won the matchup.

Looking ahead, Bye Felicias (1-1) looks to extend her win streak in a tough matchup against Cody Burrows Buttholes (1-1), and acquired some free agent help to aid her struggling RB room. Beaver Licker (0-2) remains near the bottom of the rankings, but hopes to secure his first win of the year against Loveland Longshots in week 3 behind some free agent acquisitions of his own including top waiver add Rondale Moore.

Runner Up

(8) Savages 101.78

vs

(3) Staff Infection 202.44

Although this was an absolute blowout, this matchup has to make runner up due to the high levels of scoring accomplished by Staff Infection. Derrick Henry went absolutely insane, accumulating 237 total yards of offense and 3 touchdowns (47.7 points alone). But Staff Infection didn't just lean on Henry for production; he got top-3 level fantasy production from his QB Brady, TE Gronkowski, and breakout WR star Cooper Kupp. We thought Kurty's Lil' Beauties blew the lid of fantasy week one...Staff Infection said "hold my Dr Pepper Zero Sugar" and absolutely laid it on poor Savages, who was dealing with injury issues before kickoff even started. Savages flexed Jaylen Waddle in place of injured SF running back Raheem Mostert, and while the rookie produced decently for a team that scored zero points against the Patriots, it wasn't nearly enough to make up for the overall lackluster day experienced by Savages starters across the board outside of superstar tight end Travis Kelce.

Looking ahead, Staff Infection (1-1) will likely see some regression back to the norm in week 3 against MCKC, although there is much to be hopeful for because Henry/Brady/Kupp are likely to see similar usage regardless of matchups moving forward. Savages (1-1) is in pickle, and needs to see some production from one of his three rostered QBs and a healthy Saquan Barkley if he has any chance of victory in his matchup against #1 seeded Kurty's Lil' Beauties.

The Rest Of Us

(2) RayJohn 116.28

vs

(12) MCKC 104.32

After a stellar week one, RayJohn experienced some sobering moments as his roster faced tough matchups, and some of the potential weaknesses with certain targeted players were realized. He still managed to squeeze out the win behind solid games from WRs CeeDee Lamb and subbed-in Mike Williams (over Robert Woods), which paid off big. The main fail was at QB, with Dak Prescott posting single digit numbers in a disappointing showing, but in a stroke of pure luck that was offset by the ridiculous shutout performance delivered by his Buffalo DEF (24 points). RayJohn moves to 2-0, while MCKC falls to last place and an 0-2 hole after now losing two close games in a row. MCKC does have a strong roster however, and showed his team's depth by being able to get 23.00 points from Tony Pollard, subbing in at RB2 for the injured Josh Jacobs. Had he started WR Michael Pittman instead of Donovan Peoples-Jones, MCKC would have taken advantage of the single digit QB week RayJohn suffered and taken the victory. Captain Hindsight strikes again.

Looking ahead, RayJohn (2-0) faces the 10th ranked Khronick in a matchup where WR Antonio Brown is already inactive due to CoVid, and he is hoping for a bounce-back week from QB Dak Prescott in order to stay undefeated and hopefully take first place from the clutches of Kurty. MCKC (0-2) has a pretty uphill battle against the high-scoring Staff Infection (1-1) squad that posted over 200 points in week 2, but if Jacobs suits up Sunday he just needs a few things to fall his way in order to climb out of the 0-2 hole.

(5) Loveland Longshots 151.22

vs

(10) Khronick 69.76

After a tough loss week one, Loveland Longshots announced they are a team to be reckoned with by hitting on all cylinders and delivering the second highest score of the week. Behind WR Terry McLaurin, who put up a pretty fancy 27.70 points to kick of the week Thursday night, Loveland Longshots held the lead over Khronick 100% of the contest. Even with Tyreek Hill having a disappointing night against Baltimore, Longshots more than made up for it with the historic 4-TD performance of Green Bay running back Aaron Jones. Khronick meanwhile was dealing with some very concerning fantasy issues: his team performed under expectations almost unilaterally for the second week in a row. QB Josh Allen, fantasy goldmine a year ago, has been far less than stellar, and the preseason hype on Clyde Edwards-Helaire and AJ Brown has been worse than ugly to this point. Khronick posted a league-low 69.76 points in week 2, with single digit outings from 7 of 9 roster slots.

Looking ahead, Loveland Longshots (1-1) faces the 0-2 Beaver Lickers and hopes to get above .500 with a victory over the 11th ranked team behind his strong nucleus of RBs and WRs. Khronick (1-1) faces an extremely tough matchup against the 2-0 RayJohn squad, and is hoping for some roster magic in order to breathe some life into his team heading winless into week 3.

(9) GTowns Finest 92.62

vs

(4) CBB 128.60

CBB suffered a sad loss week one, not because his team underperformed, but because fantasy is a fickle lady and he happened to run into the steamroller that was Kurty's week one. In week 2, CBB faced GTowns Finest in a slightly more manageable matchup where he saw enough production from his QB Jalen Hurts and slow-starting WR DJ Moore to offset the slower day from star TE Darren Waller. Despite another strong showing from his WR group, GTowns Finest suffered greatly from another lackluster day from his QB Justin Herbert, and single digit outings from all 3 running backs.

Looking ahead, GTowns Finest (1-1) looks to bounce back by evaluating the bench options available and deciding if one of his highly-productive backups (Hollywood Brown, Devin Singletary, Courtland Sutton) need to be promoted to the starting roster against Vaders Shade (1-1). CBB (1-1) faces the surging Bye Felicia (1-1) ensemble in week 3, and hopes his team's consistent output remains steady.

(6) Vaders Shade 111.30

vs

(1) Kurty's Lil' Beauties 148.66

I'd like to say #1 seed Kurty's Lil' Beauties came back to earth with a hard thud after the insane week 1 numbers, but rather he still put up close to 150 on the week and absolutely routed his opponent (sorry Vader, but its true). Kurty's roster is inflated with the ridiculous reliability of Christian McCaffrey, and the limitless ceiling QB Lamar Jackson provides. Add on continued solid outings from sleeper WR Brandin Cooks and TE TJ Hockenson, and Kurty shows no signs of stopping. Even with star WR Amari Cooper putting up practically a dud, he was still top-3 scoring team of the week. Vader's Shade had a rough go this week, and despite incredible performances from Kyler Murray, Austin Ekeler, Julio Jones, and Diontae Johnson, it was not enough to make up for the fact that his other 5 roster slots didn't even account for 20 total points.

Looking ahead, Vaders Shade (1-1) faces an prime matchup with GTowns Finest (1-1) where it will truly be a contender for Matchup of the Week. These guys are very close in talent depth, and the difference will be who chooses the right roster configuration and doesn't leave points on the bench. For Kurty (2-0), the plan is to keep on keeping' on, and hope the underdog Savages (1-1) don't pull off a miraculous upset.
