Sports Leaf Legacy League Week 5 Recap

In an ever-surprising year of fantasy football, let's take a look at how last week shook out and what is in store for week 6. The league is shaping up to be full of surprises!

Here are the current standing for the Legacy League:

Here is how the matchups for week 5 panned out:

Let's break it down.

Match of the Week

Kurty's Lil' Beauties 130.88

Staff Infection 152.34

Two guys who continually find themselves in high profile matchups went head to head last week, with Staff Infection getting the win behind powerful performances by Tom Brady, Derrick Henry, and Nick Chubb. Kurty meanwhile is struggling to find his footing without Christian McCaffrey in the lineup. The victory brought Staff Infection up to #3, just 6 points behind Kurty who retains second despite the loss.

This week, Kurty faces his toughest test yet as he faces off with the first seeded RayJohn. Christian McCaffrey is trending to be back on the field, but with three players on IR and six carrying a "questionable" designation, Kurty will have to monitor the situation closely.

Staff Infection will have to navigate a sea of bye weeks as he prepares for GTowns Finest, who just broke 200 points last week and will be a challenge for a team trying to solidify its place in the top of the rankings.

Runner Up

GTowns Finest 200.22

MCKC 129.50

MCKC put up a fine day, but this makes Runner Up due to the awesome display of power GTown's team came up with in Week 5. Posting the third highest score on the year with 200.22, GTown rallied behind extreme days from Justin Herbert, Justin Jefferson, DeAndre Hopkins, Alvin Kamara, and rookie breakout Jamar Chase. Even his defense came up with a touchdown. MCKC saw a great day from Devante Adams, but the otherwise average days had by the rest of his starters wasn't enough to make the matchup competitive.

In Week 6, (4) GTown faces (3) Staff Infection in a matchup that will decide who rises to the top and who has to claw their way back in it.

(12) MCKC, despite having a solid roster, has struggled mightily in the luck department and will look to get his first victory against (6) Bye Felicia.

CBB 111.32

Khronick 120.80

This matchup was decided by CBB leaving several starters who ended up not playing in his lineup. Things like this happen with game time decisions, and the points that would have given him the victory were left on the bench. Khronick got enough from Josh Allen and Leonard Fournette to give him a chance, and the breakout day from rookie tight end Kyle Pitts put him over the top for the narrow victory.

This week (8) CBB looks to bounce back against (11) Beaver Licker, in a matchup where both have receivers on bye.

(10) Khronick hopes to make this a streak by taking a second win in a row against (9) Vaders Shade, but will have to do it without his breakout TE Pitts, who is on bye.

Vaders Shade 139.66

Loveland Longshots 115.60

This matchup started out close, but the explosive day from Vaders' Austin Ekeler (32.90 points) ended up being the difference maker. Longshots left some points on the bench, but even if Callaway and AJ Dillon had been subbed in he still would have come up a few points short. The return of Tee Higgins limited the production from Boyd, so that will be something to look at moving forward. Vader meanwhile saw touchdowns from all of his starters save Zach Pascal, and that ultimately gave him the edge.

This week (9) Vaders Shade faces (10) Khronick in a matchup that hold a lot of weight deciding who moves back up to .500 and into the playoff conversation, and who falls to 2-4 with a tough battle to get back into contention.

(5) Loveland Longshots hopes to halt the losing skid against (7) Savages, in a highly-anticipated father/son matchup that has some pride attached to it.

RayJohn 185.58

Beaver Licker 133.26

Our second highest scoring matchup of the week was the first place RayJohn posting 185 points in a victory over Beaver Licker, who himself had a great fantasy week but unfortunately drew the short straw of facing a team that simply hit harder. The continued dominance of Mike Williams combined with great outings from Najee Harris, Robert Woods, and Antonio Brown was too much for Beaver. His best performers were his running backs, seeing huge days from Zeke Elliot and Jonathan Taylor, but off days from OBJ and Corey Davis led to a 50 point deficit when the smoke cleared.

(1) RayJohn moves on to face one of his biggest rivals in (2) Kurty's Lil' Beauties. Kurty has been gunning for the top spot and despite a few setbacks, he is primed give RayJohn a tough task if the league leader wants to stay undefeated.

(11) Beaver Licker has a good matchup with the injury-riddled (8) CBB team in week 6, and hopes his team can continue it's healthy scoring and secure a victory this time.

Bye Felicia 125.28

Savages 53.68

Bye Felicia had a solid day from her starters, despite a questionable decision to flex James Conner over Antonio Gibson (in PPR formats, Gibson should generally have the edge over Conner). The real story here is the perfect storm of fantasy bad fortune that befell Savages. Russell Wilson suffered an injury and was pulled. Saquan Barkley suffered an injury and was pulled. He also left some points on the bench by leaving Claypool out of his lineup, and going with Dolphins defense against Tampa didn't work out very well. If it could go wrong, it did, and Savages posted only 53.68 points on the week.

(6) Bye Felicia jumped two spots with the win and is the only team outside RayJohn to have a multi-game winning streak. She hopes to keep it alive against the winless (12) MCKC in week 6, but we really don't know what to expect here: going back to week 1, these two teams have been a roller coaster of high scores followed by low scores. Both have starters going Thursday night, so we will know shortly how the matchup is looking.

(7) Savages has an uphill battle against Loveland Longshots, as several of the players who sank his team last week are doubtful to play this week as well. He will need to utilize some IR spots to free up room for free agents, and hope some fresh faces in the lineup can stave off a Longshots team that really needs a win.
