Newly acquired Patriots tight end Hunter Henry suffered a shoulder injury at camp Sunday, concerning enough to leave practice. An MRI was scheduled early Monday, but the eye test and reports from camp indicate Henry will miss a portion of camp and possibly more. This is certainly a setback for the New England offense, as Henry was brought in on a three year, 37.5-million deal earlier this offseason to help dig out one of the NFL’s worst TE groups in 2020.
Updates to follow once results of the MRI are announced, but preliminary indications are nothing serious. Henry’s likely absence from the rest of preseason will cloud the waters as to the way the team will run their two-TE offense with fellow free agent Jonnu Smith. Smith, for his part, has been lining up all over the field in camp so far, showing that the Patriots plan to utilize his versatility heavily regardless of the health of Henry. Unless something drastic happens with the MRI, check on Henry’s status in our end-of-week injury report.
