Ball ‘Em Bench ‘Em: Week 9

Writer's picture: CodyJOliverCodyJOliver

Here is the master list for our week 9 start/sits. As usual, when we scan the fantasy landscape we have a lot of knee-jerk reactions going on. Especially when you have such high profile guys as Derrick Henry going down, and CMC coming back up, the knee-jerk can be the most inviting option. I’m exercising caution with some big names both off waivers and off IR, let’s break it down.

Christian McCaffrey will play and likely will be on a snap count. This is miserable for fantasy owners, as CMC will likely have low end RB2 value (hopefully) and Chuba Hubbard likely no value at all against New England. Best case scenario is both end with a touchdown despite little else, but expecting much out of either is risky. You have to start CMC though, Hubbard should be benched.

Saquan Barkley is not active this week with his ankle injury, making Devontae Booker a solid flex play.Booker hasn't been amazing in his opportunities but gets enough volume to warrant a start.

It's really looking like Chicago RB David Montgomery will play on Monday night against Pittsburgh, although this doesn't make him a must-start for me. Khalil Herbert has been more than effective and will still see the ball, which kind of makes each of these guys risky plays against the Steelers D which allows some of the fewest points to fantasy running backs in the league.

If you don't have a healthy quality backup rostered and your starting QB is Aaron Rodgers or Kyler Murray, take a look at the QBs in particular on the "Ball 'Em Bench 'Em" lists. They are likely available waiver targets that I project will keep you afloat for the week. Don't start these guys over a normal quarterback though.
