It's pretty clear Aaron Rodgers won't play in Green Bay next year, and his latest subterfuge of the Covid system has already resulted in the Packers losing a game. Obviously, his future lies elsewhere.
But where?
Indianapolis.
The NFL is already trying to manufacture interest in the Colts with their new in-season "Hard Knocks" series debuting next week. And you could make a pretty solid argument that Colts would currently be the best team in the AFC if they had a better quarterback.
They showed last year their willingness to acquire a QB through other means than the draft...but Rodgers wasn't on the table and they settled for Carson Wentz. While Wentz hasn't been a complete disaster, he is mostly responsible for several Indy close losses.
Now take Rodgers. He will not be leaving the NFC North (a notoriously weak division) to go play Pat Mahomes twice a year. He seeks to follow the Brady formula: find a solid young team in a weak division. The Colts are that team in the AFC. Tennessee is in division and a very tough team, but they aren't a dynasty. Not enough to dissuade Rodgers from joining.
Add on the fact that Jordan Love did less than impress with his (perhaps only) chance to show Green Bay he can be "the guy" after Rodgers departs, and suddenly Carson Wentz's newfound availability looks pretty good to the Packers front office.
Once the charades are over, don't be surprised if Aaron Rodgers lands in Indianapolis. The NFL is already giving us hints. And...Packers fans...get ready for the Carson Wentz era. He will be the best available replacement after Indy releases him.
