Aaron Rodgers tested positive for Covid-19 Wednesday. Rodgers has been evasive about his vaccine status, meaning the NFL assumes he is unvaccinated and thus not eligible to show two negative tests and return. Rather he will miss Sunday’s matchup against Kansas City and beyond, until he clears the unvaccinated protocol outlined by the NFL.
Rodgers has stated he is “immunized”, which is taken to mean he contracted the virus previously and thus can’t have personal symptoms for a period of time. That does not exempt him from the league’s non-vaccinated protocol when it comes to testing positive for the virus, which requires a minimum of 10 days and no symptoms along with negative tests before a player or coach can return to the facility.
Getting the start Sunday will be 2020 first round pick Jordan Love, who became a controversial part of the Green Bay puzzle when his selection began “the beginning of the end” of the Rodgers saga. The entire Packers organization and fan base is hoping for epic things out of Love in his first career start, as he will be the starter moving forward after Rodgers departs at the end of the season.
The Chiefs defense is bottom 10 in most pass defense categories, so despite the disappointment in missing out on a historic Rodgers/Mahomes matchup, we may actually see the matchup of the future with Pat facing off against the young Jordan Love.
